First Visit

Today my daughter and I went over to feed Henrik's cat. Kitty greeted us with a meow. There was still plenty of water and dry food, but we gave her a packet of wet Whiskas stuff, which she immediately began to eat. We watched the Tampa Bay vs. Ottawa hockey game while we waited for her to finish eating. When she was done, I thought she might want to play, or cuddle, but she was much more interested in something behind the portable stereo on the floor.

Oh dear. Henrik had warned me about this. Apparently Kitty, who is also an outdoor cat (comes and goes through a cat flap), enjoys bringing home mice for entertainment.

I moved the stereo to see what was going on, and the cat grabbed the mouse and headed for the bedroom. I took some cds out of their case, to use it as a container for entrapping the mouse. The cat let the mouse go, and mousey stared at kiddo and me for a minute before scampering under Henrik's jacket on the chair. The cat enthusiastically scampered over to look for the mouse, but it had climbed up the jacket. I caught the mouse and used a magazine to keep it from jumping out.

Kiddo and I headed out to the woodpile out back and let the mouse go. I don't know what Henrik does when Kitty brings home a mouse - does he let the cat eat it? Does the cat just play with it? I just didn't think it would be a good idea to let a mouse find a place to hide in Henrik's aparment. If the cat brought home more mice which it didn't eat, it could get messy.

Henrik asked me to take care of the CAT, not its guests, eh?
